College of Environmental and Resource Sciences(CERS)

Established in July, 1999, College of Environmental and Resource Sciences (CERS) was formed by the amalgamation of corresponding department, research institution, office and centres from the original Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University and Zhejiang Agricultural University. CERS now consists of 3 departments(Department of Environmental Science, Department of Environmental Engineering, and Department of Resource Science), 9 parallel research institutes(Institute of Environmental Science, Institute of Environment Pollution Control Technology, Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, Institute of Environment Ecological Engineering, Institute of Environment Engineering, Institute of Soil-Water Resource and Environment, Institute of Agricultural Chemistry, Institute of Agricultural Remote Sensing and Information Technology Application), and one experimental teaching center, all together possessing teaching and researching room 25,000 square metres.
There are 126 faculty and staff in CERS(42 professors and 52 associate professors; 61 Doctor Tutors and 41 Master Tutors), including 4 National “One Thousand Program” Experts, 1 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding national contribution, 2 provincial super experts, 4 Changjiang Scholars, 6 winners of national outstanding youth science fund, 2 experts frome National Pacesetter Project, 1 expert from National Pacesetter Project in the new century, 7 distinguished professor of Zhejiang University, 4 winners of Fund for outstanding young scientists, and 1 expert from “One Hundred Project” of Zhejiang University. As to the students, CERS has 27 postdoctors,690 graduates(248 PHD candidates and 442 master’s degree candidates),and 377 full time undergraduate students at present.
CERS was established to be a comprehensive environment and resource research center with high research activity. The college has three National Key Disciplines, namely, plant nutrition, soil science, and environmental engineering, as well as one Provincial Key Discipline in environmental science. There are 2 postdoctoral stations—environmental science&engineering, and agricultual resource&environment, 2 PHD programmes--environmental science&engineering, and agricultual resource&environment, 4 master programmes—environmental science, environmental engineering, soil science and plant nutrition, and 4 undergraduate programmes in environmental engineering, environmental science, agricultural environment and science, and resource science.
CERS supports a number of research centers and laboratories including: Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Environment Remediation and Ecological Health, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Subtropic Soil and Plant Nutrition, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Agricultural Remote Sensing and Information System, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Water Pollution Control and Environmental Safety, Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Organic Pollution Process and Control, etc.
