Speaker profile:Wonyong CHOI received his Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 1996. He is currently Professor of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering & Chemical Engineering at Pohang University of Technology, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hazardous Materials, Journal of Physical Chemistry, Journal of Energy and Environmental Science. Research interests include semiconductor photocatalysis technology, solar photocatalytic hydrogen production, visible light catalyst development; photochemical purification of water and atmosphere; kinetics and mechanism of advanced oxidation technology; physicochemical methods for removing refractory pollutants; reduction of nano metal particles for removal of pollutants, etc. He has published nearly 140 academic papers, most of which have been included in SCI. The total number of citations has exceeded 10,000 and the H index has 39. Nearly 30 graduate students are trained and 17 are studying.

In 2008, he was awarded the “Lectureship Award for Asian and Oceanian Photochemist” by the Japan Photochemical Association for his outstanding contribution to “photochemical conversion of environmental pollutants in homogeneous and heterogeneous systems”; KAST Youth was awarded in 2006. The Young Scientist Award (Korean Academy of Science and Technology); in 2004, Who's Who in the World.
