Workshop on “Biochemical process of soil pollution and its effect on
the safety of agricultural products”
June 13, 2007
Objectives of the workshop
Soil contamination is the presence of man-made chemicals or other alteration of the natural soil environment. This type of contamination typically arises from the rupture of underground storage tanks, application of pesticides, and percolation of contaminated surface water to subsurface strata, leaching of wastes from landfills or direct discharge of industrial wastes to the soil. The world is increasingly facing serious soil pollution problems that jeopardize ecology, food safety, people's health, and the sustainable development of agriculture. Ensuring the soil resources sustainable to use and the safety of agricultural products has become a hot topic. Hence, a workshop on "biochemical process of soil pollution and its effect on the safety of agricultural products" will be held on June 13th,
