摘要:

Soil tests for trace metals are intended to measure the plant-availability of these elements. However, many of them use chemically aggressivereagents which by their nature change the chemistry of the soildrastically. This puts into question their usefulness for measuringbioavailability. Experiments in our laboratory show that soil extractionswith simple unbuffered salts like 0.01 M CaCl2 , or measurement of free metal ion activity in soil solution, provide a better measure of tracemetal uptake by plants . In addition, soil bioassays for microbialfunction , such as the urease assay, correlate well to these less aggressive soil tests.
