Abstract
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the troposphere reacts photochemically with oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in the presence of solar radiation to form various secondary air pollutants in the form smog such as ozone and peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN). This photochemical smog causes adverse impact on plants and agricultural products and poses health risk on human’s health. In this seminar, the sources of VOC in the atmosphere will be discussed with particular attention to those biogenic sources (trees, grasses and marshes). Study on biogenic VOCs enhances our knowledge toward biogenic emissions and the production of secondary air pollutants.
